LAKE GREGORY AND THE NEW MANAGEMENT

Once a month on every second Wednesday there is a Realtor Breakfast held for all of RIM Realtors and affiliates.  This year we all (or a good 1/4 of us) gather at the newly renovated “Tudor House” for a buffet breakfast.  The meeting is an easy, short hour of general community information or recognitions.  It gives a bunch of Realtors a chance to catch up on any gossip and or meet their competition.  I felt today was especially informative and the reason for my Blog topic today! This topic has been a little bit of an uproar here in our small town and there have been many grumbles and ugly faces about this “New” Lake Gregory.  Here is what I found out:

I had the chance this morning to meet Spencer Pike, the new Manager of Lake Gregory, along with Michelle Fox, the Marketing Manager.  After the glares were over with, both Spencer and Michelle got to the topic at hand, why was Lake Gregory taken over by a private company, rather than continually run by the county? Here are some notes that I took and hope to spread some cheer on the subject.

The new company was taken over on January 1, 2014.  This is a private company and they will be running it as they see fit for the community and its value.  There will be renovations done to the San Moritz Lodge (it is much needed). There will be a new beach club called “Cove Café,” which will serve beer and wine.  There will be improvements to the swim area along with a large new “Splash Island.”  You can now have a personal watercraft on the lake as long as there is no motor, this also includes Kayaks and Paddleboards (HAPPY FACE); there will be a fee of $10 a day or $100 for the season for each water craft.  There are new hours of operation, previous hours were 10-5, the new hours are Dawn to Dusk, and until the people stop coming (when the weather turns too cold).  Spencer did say that dogs in the lake are ok, but if you bring them on a water craft you and the dog should have a life vest.  For all the fisherman out there, in January there was 5,000 LBS of fish dumped into the lake!  So far I’d say, it all sounds pretty good!

Now for the fees (THE BIGGEST CONCERN).  Yes there are fees.  The fee we are all used to is the beach pass, it will be $6 dollars per person, and there is a season pass offered for those who like to come more than once in a while.  There is now a Parking fee and I was told that it starts this weekend (4/11/2014).  The parking fee is $6 dollar a day, but if you are a regular park visitor you can purchase a year pass for only $49 dollars.  This applies to all of the Lake Gregory parking areas.  If you use the sport fields for any community sport leagues,  attend a wedding or special event, there will be an exception to those parties.  Passes will be provided to all organizations through the coordinator of the event, and parking will be free.

I must admit, after I heard, oh around 50 questions answered today, I felt pretty optimistic about this situation (I did not coming in to the meeting).  There was talk about how ALL fees that are paid to Lake Gregory will go directly to Lake Gregory or the town of Crestline.  This new management is hoping to bring a fresh new vibe to Crestline.  I am happy to hear of this change and I think it will increase property values in the coming years. It will also give Crestline the face lift it needs to attract more tourist and vacationers.  After all “San Moritz” was the happening spot back in the 60’s, there is no reason why it can’t be again!  The GRAND OPENING is set for June 7, will have live music, and I’m sure much much more.

LETTER FROM THE MARKETING MANAGER OF LAKE ARROWHEAD VILLAGE

Please read below on more info regarding the Village Concerts:

Dear Concert Supporter,

First of all, thank you so very much for your support of our concerts and events in Lake Arrowhead Village.  We hope you will continue to enjoy them for years to come!

We will need your support even more very soon.  As you may be aware, we have had some complaints over the previous couple of years about the noise from our concerts which could effect our ability to procure our Conditional Use Permit and, thus, continue our concerts.

A report will be submitted to the Planning Commission in the next week or so which will circulate for 20 days.  Shortly thereafter, there will be a public hearing. They anticipate the public hearing to take place in late March/early April. KEEP YOUR CALENDARS OPEN AND LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW!  As soon as we get a firm date, we will notify you. Your presence of support at this hearing would be highly beneficial and greatly appreciated.

A VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember is that they CANNOT take into consideration ANY economic impacts.  The ONLY thing they can take into consideration are ENVIRONMENTAL concerns.  Also, they prefer that they receive ALL letters of support or non-support prior to the hearing.  You can submit your letter of support directly from our website by clicking here.

We need to show up in numbers at the public hearing.  We need to remain civilized and on point.  At the hearing, we need to focus on the noise mitigation steps we’ve already taken and the good attempts we have made, and how it’s improved.  Below are the steps we implemented in 2013.  We also plan on taking even more steps in 2014, as outlined in this 2014 Mitigation Plan document. The Village is committed to continuing our efforts to find ways to improve the situation.

2013 Mitigation Summary:

1. We erected an apparatus onto the sides of the “R” and “S” buildings by which we hung acoustical blankets during concerts which reduced the sound levels at the nearby condos to an acceptable level.

2. The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and are over at 8:30 p.m. sharp. We are very satisfied with this time limit for many reasons, not the least of which is the good will compromise made for our neighbors.

3. We moved the subwoofer portion of the loudspeaker combination off the stage and onto the ground and angled the stage left full-range loudspeaker slightly inward toward the audience, giving us another reduction from the previous configuration.

4. We keep a sound decibel meter at the sound mixing board where the sound technician takes measurements throughout the concert. He has been instructed to keep the levels below a certain level, as this level has proven to be the best level for all effected areas per the multiple sound studies while still maintaining an enjoyable level of listening for the audience. We also have our staff do periodic checks in other areas throughout the village and across the lake (checked by boat) to ensure compliance. The mixing board channels have also been marked to indicate the levels needed to maintain the acceptable levels.

Some of you have approached me over the last few months to tell me that you could hear the concerts from your homes in prior years, but this last Summer you did not. This is exactly the kind of comment that would be extremely helpful to put on record with the County.

Please call the Village Management office if you have any questions or concerns.  We want to hear from you.  We would also like to know if you plan on attending the public hearing. Your support is invaluable at this time and we could not be more grateful for it.

Thank you!

SAVE THE CONCERTS

SAVE THE CONCERTS

Unfortunately it is this time of year again and this time it is the final draw. We need all the support we can get form locals to vacationers. Please write a letter and send it to me. I will be attending the hearing on Thursday April 17 at 9am to fight this battle. It is regarding a noise issue, and we need your support. Thank you and lets keep these concerts playing!

My First Blog

BLOG… snarf, yuck, ugh, blah, sighhhhhh… Fine I will finally start one!  I suppose this is right up my alley, I mean I am in my 30’s and this is the total “Y” generation thing to do, RIGHT?!  Besides I have a pretty big mouth, and I tend to have what a few friends and I termed a few years back as “Chocolate Feet” (better known as “foot in mouth” syndrome, or in my case, “feet in mouth”).  So let’s get this started!  Warning:  I am not a writer (which is why I have put this off) so these blogs will be no where near perfect and they are sure to have grammar errors and misspellings and that is that.  🙂

Hi, I’m Michelle Calkins, a Realtor, NSCA-Personal Trainer, Photographer and all around hard worker who lives in the California San Bernardino Mountains in a little town called Lake Arrowhead.  In 2013 I experienced one of the best years of my life and it all has to do with my career in Real Estate, I finally found something I love and I can’t stop talking about.  I work for Coldwell Banker Sky Ridge Realty in Blue Jay and I am on the Arrowhead Professional Partners team (find us on FB).  I work with both buyers and sellers from Crestline to Running Springs.  I will be posting listings, realtor tips, and an eclectic array of miscellaneous things that I find fun.  I look forward to working with you or someone you know in the future.

Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to find me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

Always,

Michelle
