Special Guest

Andy

This year we have a special guest, actor Andy Divoff. Divoff has played many villains in film and on television, usually drug cartel leaders, and is best known for having played the nefarious Djinn in the first two films of the Wishmaster series. His other films include Another 48 Hrs.The Hunt for Red OctoberAir Force One and Toy Soldiers. Some of Divoff’s television guest appearances include The A-TeamJAG and Highlander: The Series and Lost.

I have made my living as an actor for the last 30 years. I’ve been a full-time resident of Lake Arrowhead for 25 of those years. I have followed the good examples of community support so prevalent in my industry, including those of Ernie Hudson and Vincent Spanno. I have had good fortune in my own career and want to show my appreciation by giving back. One year ago this June I embarked on the idea of using a craft brew recipe idea to help raise money for charity. The first ever batch was brewed in Denver, CO by master brewer Adam Draeger, based on my fondness for Belgian Strong Golden Ales. As a nod to the “Djinn” a mythological character I brought to life on screen, I wanted to include Habanero peppers and Persian Lime to give my recipe a specific personality. My first ever pour of the Djinn’s HellaBrew took place last October in Boston where I was able to raise $1400.00 for 3 charities, The Smile Train, The Pat Brody Cat Shelter, and The Dave Brockie Fund. I am very proud to be a part of helping raise money for our very own local organization Operation Provider.

Here are some pictures from 2014’s event.  Pictures are provided by yours truly, Michelle Calkins.  If you see me this year, I will be the girl with the camera, come say hi and let me snap a picture of you enjoying the festivities!

As always, HAVE FUN, BE HOPPY, and BE SAFE!  This event is one of a kind and helps support the local community, Proceeds help the chamber and Blue Jay Business Association promote local business and tourism.

See you around town and see you at Brewfest!

Take a look at what I captured this morning along Lake Gregory Drive!

5th Annual Lake Arrowhead Brewfest ~ August 9, 2014

It is that time of year again to start thinking about the Annual Lake Arrowhead Brewfest!  This year the event will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at noon on the Jensen’s parking lot in Blue Jay.

Last years attendees set a new record, it will be exciting to see how many show up this year!  We want everyone to know about it, so make sure to tell your friends and spread the word.  It is probably a good idea to purchase you ticket in advance if you want to receive a collector taster glass.

Remember that this event is in the dead of summer and the temperatures can get pretty high.  I suggest you drink lots of water and of course do not drink and drive, make sure to get a designated driver. The designated driver Brewfest ticket is only $15.

I look forward to seeing all your faces there, I think I will even give away one free ticket, but you have to be 21 years of age… Remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to qualify for the drawing!

THIS IS “LOU EDDIES” PIZZA IN SKYFOREST ~ LAKE ARROWHEAD

In RECENT NEWS:  Lou Eddie’s was just named one of YELPS top 100 places to eat in the US!  They made number 72! Here is the link to read more: http://officialblog.yelp.com/2015/01/yelps-top-100-places-to-eat-in-the-us-for-2015.html

Have you seen the flashing PIZZA sign on Highway 18 and Kuffle Canyon? Well that is Lou Eddies Pizza and if you have not stopped in to try out this delicious new restaurant then I suggest you Stop, Drop and Pizza!

This February, 2014, marked the one year anniversary for Lou Eddies Pizza!

Image

Ed Hillary and Louise York are the creators and masterminds behind this delicious pizza establishment.  After Eddie decided his life as a Chemist did not suit him, he started working in restaurants and never looked back.

It took Lou and Eddie 3 years to open their doors, but once they finally did, the line out the door to order Pizza has not stopped.  You might have noticed first off how small the seating area is, but do not let that stop you from ordering.  Lou Eddies does not have table service, so make sure that you order first and then grab a seat from one of their many locations they offer throughout the grounds.  There is seating in the main restaurant, if you grab a bar stool you can watch your pizza be hand made and cooked!  There is also a Saloon downstairs with ample seating or you can grab a picnic-table outside when the weather is not so frightful! 😉  There is of course “Take Out” so that you can just order in, pick up and take home!

Image

Image

Image

One thing I love about Lou Eddies, besides the Deer Meadow Pizza (I add bacon) $14.50… Is the fun vintage style décor that they have going on.  They have these awesome lamp shades that are made out of olive buckets from Italy, the bar stools are the old stools from the Lake Arrowhead Yacht Club and the bar top is reclaimed bark beetle wood from Ponderosa Logs.

Image

Lou Eddies is focusing on getting as many local vegetable and meats as they can.  Right now on special they have a Hot Rocket Pie, it is a Sriracha & Wild Arugula pizza that has fresh Herbs from Running Springs and Sriracha cured bacon jerky from Arrowhead Jerky Works.  I heard it is DY-NA-MITE!  Lou Eddies also offers soups and salads for those who want to skip the pizza.

Image

New this year is the BREWERY!  YAY! We love beer, or well I do anyways! 😉  But for those of you who are craft beer lovers, Lou Eddies is brewing up some tasty beer in their Saloon!  The equipment arrived last week (May 29) and Eddie is ready to start brewing.  The beer will be up and running soon, so keep an eye out for the release!   Not only does Lou Eddies have a saloon but they also have a wide variety of craft beers on tap and in bottle.

This is STONE CREEK BISTRO, Home to the Duck Fat Fries ~ Aqua Fria

From DUCK FAT FRIES to FRENCH PRESS, this Bistro is serving an upscale, full-service menu sure to shake your taste buds!

Have you been to the new restaurant Stone Creek Bistro that’s sits in the tiny town of Agua Fria?  If you have not stopped in to try out this new restaurant then let me tell you that you are missing out!  Stone Creek Bistro is about to have their 1 year Anniversary on July 29 and the community is thriving off the good food and fun atmosphere they have provided. Image From the front page of their website: {We feature seasonally driven produce, locally sourced dairy and meats, and house-made desserts, all created with love and passion by chef Sam Perry. Our menu is moderately priced, with an eclectic mix of regional American comfort food and traditional French bistro cuisine. We use time-honored recipes as well as some cutting-edge molecular-gastronomy techniques} Image Image For those of you who have experienced the “New American/ French Spice/ Southern Flair” that Stone Creek is cooking up then I can bet I am making your mouth salivate just by blogging about this 😉

If you have not had the chance yet to try what Chef Sam Perry is dishing up, then I suggest you stop what you are doing and make a reservation tonight! Two of my favorite dishes are the Ahi Tuna Tartare Appetizer $14 and the Braise Lamb Osso Bucco $29!

Don’t forget to ask about the “Blue Plate Special.” Image Image Stone Creek Bistro is Family owned and operated, literally almost every employee is a brother, cousin, spouse or parent!  The chalk art on the walls and menu boards are hand drawn by Sam’s wife Jamie Perry.  Sonny Perry Sr. can be seen greeting all who come in, he is also the one who does all the beer and wine ordering, and if you were wondering… yes the beer and wine selection is just as good as the food! Image Image I am such a huge fan of the Interior décor.  The chalk board menus, the lighting and the pallet walls are just the perfect modern touch!  Sonny built the bar top with his own hands out of his garage, and all the tables came from local antique stores.
