| Dear Concert Supporter,
First of all, thank you so very much for your support of our concerts and events in Lake Arrowhead Village. We hope you will continue to enjoy them for years to come!
We will need your support even more very soon. As you may be aware, we have had some complaints over the previous couple of years about the noise from our concerts which could effect our ability to procure our Conditional Use Permit and, thus, continue our concerts.
A report will be submitted to the Planning Commission in the next week or so which will circulate for 20 days. Shortly thereafter, there will be a public hearing. They anticipate the public hearing to take place in late March/early April. KEEP YOUR CALENDARS OPEN AND LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW! As soon as we get a firm date, we will notify you. Your presence of support at this hearing would be highly beneficial and greatly appreciated.
A VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember is that they CANNOT take into consideration ANY economic impacts. The ONLY thing they can take into consideration are ENVIRONMENTAL concerns. Also, they prefer that they receive ALL letters of support or non-support prior to the hearing. You can submit your letter of support directly from our website by clicking here.
We need to show up in numbers at the public hearing. We need to remain civilized and on point. At the hearing, we need to focus on the noise mitigation steps we’ve already taken and the good attempts we have made, and how it’s improved. Below are the steps we implemented in 2013. We also plan on taking even more steps in 2014, as outlined in this 2014 Mitigation Plan document. The Village is committed to continuing our efforts to find ways to improve the situation.
2013 Mitigation Summary:
1. We erected an apparatus onto the sides of the “R” and “S” buildings by which we hung acoustical blankets during concerts which reduced the sound levels at the nearby condos to an acceptable level.
2. The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and are over at 8:30 p.m. sharp. We are very satisfied with this time limit for many reasons, not the least of which is the good will compromise made for our neighbors.
3. We moved the subwoofer portion of the loudspeaker combination off the stage and onto the ground and angled the stage left full-range loudspeaker slightly inward toward the audience, giving us another reduction from the previous configuration.
4. We keep a sound decibel meter at the sound mixing board where the sound technician takes measurements throughout the concert. He has been instructed to keep the levels below a certain level, as this level has proven to be the best level for all effected areas per the multiple sound studies while still maintaining an enjoyable level of listening for the audience. We also have our staff do periodic checks in other areas throughout the village and across the lake (checked by boat) to ensure compliance. The mixing board channels have also been marked to indicate the levels needed to maintain the acceptable levels.
Some of you have approached me over the last few months to tell me that you could hear the concerts from your homes in prior years, but this last Summer you did not. This is exactly the kind of comment that would be extremely helpful to put on record with the County.
